12 Contributing Factors to Many Accidents

When it comes to motor vehicle accidents there are many factors and causes that come into consideration. For example, not only are there vehicular factors but also environmental factors to consider.

In Kentucky, the law states that police officers may indicate:

  • A maximum of three driver factors for each driver
  • Up to two vehicular factors for each vehicle
  • Up to two environmental factors for each accident

As the Kentucky law demonstrates there are always a number of causes of accidents and in most cases an accident cannot be pinpointed to one single cause.

Vehicular factors that can cause accidents include:

  • Not properly securing your load
  • Carrying an oversized load on your vehicle
  • Lighting defects and failures
  • Headlight defects
  • Defective brakes
  • Tire failures
  • Steering failures

Environmental factors that can cause accidents include:

  • Slippery surfaces
  • Obstructed view/poor vision
  • Objects in the roadway
  • Animals on the roadway
  • Water pooling

Always be prepared for both the vehicular and environmental factors on the roadway that are cause for accidents.
